Understanding Care App Statuses

The Care App is the companion app for EmbracePlus. It securely collects raw data and digital biomarkers from your device and uploads them to the Empatica Cloud.

Opening the Care App and then checking the main screen tells you whether everything is working.

The main screen of the Care App has three possible background colors:

  • Teal - The Care App and EmbracePlus are working correctly.
  • Yellow - Data collection is still running, but something needs your attention.
  • Red - Data collection or upload has stopped. You need to act.

Below are all the statuses you may see on the main screen, and what to do about each one:

Teal

Care App and EmbracePlus are working correctly

  1. Care is working correctly
    Teal-working correctly.png
    • Everything is running as expected. You’re wearing the device, it’s recording data, and the Care App is uploading that data to the Empatica cloud.
  • No action required
  1. Care is getting ready
    getting ready.png

    • The Care App and the device are calibrating. This takes only a few minutes and happens:
      • After you take the device off the charger
      • After pairing
      • Just after you put the device on your wrist
      • After a restart
  • Keep wearing the device and keep the Care App open.
    • The status will change to ‘Care is working correctly’ shortly.

  1. EmbracePlus is syncing
    syncing.png
    • The device is sending data from its own memory to the Care App. The device saves data on board whenever it loses its connection to your phone, which can happen because:
      • Bluetooth was turned OFF
      • Your phone was switched OFF
      • The device was turned OFF with data still unsynced
      • The device and your phone were more than 30 feet/10 meters apart
      • The Care App was closed or not running
  • Keep wearing the device and keep it near your phone.
    • Once everything has synced with the Care App, the status changes to ‘Care is working correctly’.
  1. Care is on standby - Battery is charging
    charging.png

    • The device is on the cable charger. The Care App will let you know once the battery is full.
  • No action required
  1. Care is on standby - Battery is fully charged
    charged.png

    • The device is fully charged and ready to use.
  • Take the device off the charger and put it on to start collecting data.
    • The status will change to ‘Care is working correctly’ shortly.

Data is being collected, but something requires attention

  1. Care needs your attention
    needs attention.png
    • Data collection is still running, but you need to fix something. It could be:
      • No internet connection (WiFi or cellular data). The app needs internet to upload data to the Empatica Cloud.
      • Notifications are turned off. We recommend leaving them on; they help you collect as much data as possible.
      • A new version of the Care App is available. Each release can include bug fixes and new features, so it’s worth installing.
  • Tap the Status Card to see how to fix it. Depending on the problem, you can:
    • Check that your phone is connected to the internet.
    • Turn on notifications so the Care App can send you important alerts.
    • Install the latest version of the Care App.
  1. Device not worn
    Yellow-not worn.png
    • The device isn’t on your wrist, or it isn’t sitting in the right position.
  1. Device battery is low
    Yellow-low battery.png
    • The device will run out of battery soon.
Red

Data collection and/or transfer has stopped, some action is required

  1. Care is not working
    Red-not working.png
    • The Care App can’t communicate with the device. Possible reasons:
      • The device isn’t connected to your phone over Bluetooth
      • Your phone’s Bluetooth is turned OFF
      • The device is out of battery
  • Tap the Status Card to see how to fix it. Depending on the problem, you can:
    • Check that the device and your phone are within 30 feet/10 meters of each other
    • Check that your phone’s Bluetooth is turned ON
    • Charge EmbracePlus
  1. The device's memory is full
    Red-full memory.png
    • The device’s internal memory is full, so it can’t record any more data.
  • Connect the device to your phone over Bluetooth and keep them close together, so the device can clear its memory. Also make sure the Care App is allowed to run in the background, and open it at least once a day.
    • Give the data some time to sync. Data collection restarts as soon as there’s enough free memory.

Status Cards

Tap the Status Card to read more about how the system is working and how to fix a problem. The Status Card is the first card on the main screen of the Care App.
