Why should the EmbracePlus be cleaned regularly?
You wear EmbracePlus continuously, so dirt, sweat, and bacteria build up over time, just as they do on anything you use every day. Cleaning it regularly keeps the device in good condition and helps prevent skin irritation.
EmbracePlus should only be worn on the surface of healthy skin. Skin irritation is more likely if the device isn’t cleaned regularly. We recommend cleaning EmbracePlus once a week. If your skin is especially sensitive, cleaning it daily may suit you better, as it stops bacteria building up and causing a reaction.
Caution:
Remove the device from the body when cleaning or sanitizing. Do not clean the device while wearing it.
How to clean your EmbracePlus:
To clean EmbracePlus, follow these six steps:
- Remove the device from your body
- Take a polyester/cellulose wipe
- Soak the wipe in 70% isopropyl alcohol for five (5) minutes
- Thoroughly clean the device for at least one (1) minute by wiping the whole device
- Visually check the whole device for traces of dirt. In case you see any visible contamination, repeat the cleaning procedure
- Let the device dry before wearing or sanitizing it
How to sanitize your Empatica Wearable:
To sanitize EmbracePlus, follow these four steps:
- Take a polyester/cellulose wipe
- Soak the wipe in 70% isopropyl alcohol for five (5) minutes
- Thoroughly wipe the device for at least ninety (90) seconds
- Let the device dry thoroughly before using it again
Do not use any cleaning agents other than those described above without explicit written instructions from Empatica. The cleaning and sanitization procedures were validated following ISO 17664 and AAMI TIR 30 standards.
Skin Irritation and Allergic Reactions:
If your skin becomes irritated after prolonged use, it is recommended to switch the recording location, for example by placing the device on your other wrist (if allowed, per your study’s protocol). Clean the device before wearing it again to avoid further irritation.
In case of an allergic reaction persisting beyond 2-3 days, it is recommended to immediately stop using the device, and please notify Empatica of the event by contacting the Empatica Research Support Team.
The materials used in the manufacturing of EmbracePlus and EmbraceMini are widely used in wearable devices. Empatica performed biocompatibility tests according to the ISO 10993 standard series and the device successfully passed those tests.
